Season’s Greetings!! I am honored and have great pride in serving the Greater Washington Malayalee community this year as the 37th President of Kerala Association of Greater Washington (KAGW). I thank you for the confidence you’ve in me and wanted to let you know I’ve a great team of talented volunteers willing to dedicate their time and energy to wholeheartedly serve the community.
The world is an increasingly interconnected place, busy with mobility and rapid changes. Families are relocating, immigrants are settling in, and rural areas and industrial towns are being transformed through global economic shifts. A sense of community is not something many of us can take for granted anymore. In this context, KAGW is committed to help people to remember and celebrate their shared experiences, traditions, identities, struggles, and aspirations.
KAGW has been serving theWashington – Baltimore Malayalee community for last 36 years by working towards binding the community together by promoting and preserving their identities, traditions, and values. By providing public programs through which cultural heritage can be shared, KAGW has always been a leader in building bridges between groups and community as well. We have firmly established intentions to serve community in this way, and these purposes are a foundation for our far-reaching programs and experiences working in the public sphere to benefit community.
I know I have a tough act to follow. The team under the dynamic leadership of Rejive Joseph organized a series of great events in 2011, setting another higher standard in the process. I request your continued support in 2012 attending all our events and making them huge success. The 2012 executive committee is counting on your continued support and participation in all our activities. Like the previous years, we have planned many interesting and diverse programs for people of all ages and dates are published in advance. Please check out the dates in a 2012 KAGW calendar OR visit our Currents Events web
page. Also please visit our website, www.kagw.com periodically for updates on all KAGW events as well as the larger community events.
I look forward to hearing from you - ideas, suggestions/feedbacks, words of support, newsworthy events (good and bad news alike such as births, new arrivals, weddings, illness, loss in the family etc) - we would love to celebrate or sympathize jointly as a community.
Please feel free to write to me at president@kagw.com with your concerns and compliments alike.
May the New Year add a new beauty and freshness into your life!
Happy New Year to you and your family
Looking forward to work with you closely,
Thank you,
Shaju Sivabalan
