followed by a variety entertainment program.

Pookalam Malsaram at Onam
KAGW is planning on having a Pookalam Malsaram this
year as a reminisance to the age old tradition in Kerala.
Those interested in Attending the Pookalam Malsaram must send an
email to entertainment@kagw.com expressing interest in joining the
competition. If you do not have a team you will be assigned to a
team. you will be notified of the rules and regulations once we
have your application email.
KAGW Annual Magazine
Articles are invited for the KAGW annual magazine. The magazine
committee is currently working on compiling the articles that
highlight the social and cultural issues facing Kerala today.
Please send your articles before July 16th, 2008 to
editor@kagw.com
Chakiarkoothu
KAGW is also planning on having an entertainment
that is believed to have been once introduced to Kerala by the
early Aryan immigrants and is performed only by the members of the
Chakiar caste. The theatre is known as Koothambalam. The story is
recited in a quasi-dramatic style with emphasis on eloquent
declarations with appropriately suggestive facial expressions and
hand gestures. The only accompaniments are the cymbals and the
drum known as the mizhavu, made of copper with a narrow mouth on
which is stretched a piece of parchment.
KAGW is proud to welcome you on the 30th of August to witness this
ancient art form called Chakiarkoothu, performed for the 1st time
in the Washington DC area.

KAGW This year we will have a "Fast
Lane" entry at the Onam Program. KAGW members will be
eligible to use this Fast Entry Lanes. If you do not already have
your memberships this would be a great time to get it.
